Introduction

The “4 Qul” are referred to as a set of short chapters of the Holy Quran, each beginning with the word “Qul,” meaning “say.” These four chapters are Surah Al-akhlas, Surah Al-Kafirun, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Naas. Collectively, they hold significant spiritual and protective value in Islam

Surah Al-Kafirun

  1. Say, “O disbelievers.
  2. I do not worship that you worship.
  3. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.
  4. Nor will I be a worshiper of what you worship.
  5. Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship
  6. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”

Surah Al-Ikhlas

  1. Say, “ He is Allah, [who is] one.
  2. Allah, The Eternal refuge.
  3. He neither begets nor is born.
  4. Nor is there an equivalent to Him.”

Surah Al-Falak

  1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.
  2. From the evil of that which he created.
  3. And from the evil of darkness when it settles.
  4. And from the evils of the blowers in knots.
  5. And from the evil of envier when he envies.”

Surah An-Naas

  1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
  2. The sovereign of mankind.
  3. The God of mankind,
  4. From the evil of retreating whisperer-
  5. Who whisper [evil] into the hurt of mankind-
  6. From among the jinn and mankind.”

4 Quls In context of Hadith

There is a narration from Abu Dawood: Once, The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, “O Ibne Abbas, shall I tell you about the best protection?” Ibne Abbas replied, “yes, The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.).”

The Prophet Said, “Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak.” and ‘Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.’ It is included in these two surahs.”

Ayesha (May Allah pleased with Her) narrated that the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) used to recite Surah Al-Akhlaas, Surah Al-Falak, and Surah An-Naas before bedtime. Afterwards, He would blow onto His hands and gently rub them over His body, beginning with His head, face, and Front. He would repeat it thrice. (Source Bukhari). It is also narrated that The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) used to recite Surah Muzammil in night prayers.

Surah Al-Kafirun

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed,”Recite Surah Al-Kafirun before going to sleep as it is a protection from the Shirk.”
Reciting and reading this surah makes the whole night safe for the believers. Muslims also believe that a person who dies after reciting this surah dies as a martyr.

Surah Ikhlas

Abu Saeed narrated that a man repeatedly heard another man reciting Qul ho wallah ho Ahad. The next day, He came to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and told Him about that Zikr. He thought that the Zikr needed to be longer. But the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) said: “By the One in whose hands is my soul this zikr is one third of the Holy Quran.”

On another occasion, The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) told the Sahaba (R.A), “One who recites Qul ho wallah hu Ahad ten times, Allah will bestow him a home in paradise.” Surah Yaseen is another Surah that is a great blessing for a person who wants to research Islam.

Surah Al-Falak

It is narrated that The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Whoever recites Surah Al Falak and Surah An-Nas during the month of Ramadan in any of the prayer; It is as he has fasted in Makkah and he will get reward equal to Umrah and Hajj.”

Surah An-Naas

Reciting Surah Falak and Surah An-Nas before bed keeps you safe from the evils of the devil and Jinn.

Reciting Surah Naas and Surah Falak on any part of the body which is in Pain will cause relief.

Protection and Shielding

The combined recitation of four Quls is believed and narrated to create a protective shield around the reciter. Each Surah addresses seeking refuge in Allah from different types of harm, darkness, whispering of evils, or negative influences. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated that whoever recites Surah Al-Kafirun will never commit shirk, as the sense of the oneness of Allah prevails within them.

Spiritual Strength
